"Trekkies is not a good documentary. Structurally it's a mess, and director Roger Nygard and producer and host Denise Crosby...can't quite decide on their attitude. ...Real Trekkies will have their feelings hurt; non-Trekkies (or even anti-Trekkies) will find the toothless satire frustrating, as Nygard chases down self-importance and self-delusion but refuses to bite. ... 'Trekkies' works in spite of itself, however, because of the sheer marvellousness of the subject matter. ... There's great footage here; it would be interesting to see what a really gifted filmmaker--such as Canadian documentary director Peter Lynch, no stranger to magnificent obsession--could do with it."
