"The documentary captures real 'Trekkies' without sarcasm. It's a lithe, cheery documentary about the masses of fans who flock with admirable abandon to convention after convention.... 'Trekkies'...is directed and edited with aplomb by Roger Nygard.... His first effort is smart and funny, effectively straddling the line between sincerity and self-parody. The best thing about 'Trekkies' is that Nygard treats his subjects with the respect of an insider. It would be very easy for the film to beg cheap laughs from mocking the lives it chronicles, but it honorably refuses to. The humor, and there's plenty of it, is instead subtle and good-natured, and results in a candid, engaging look at the life of a Trekkie."
