Fellow Trekkies -
Not only am I a Trekkie, I also happen to be in the movie - 3 times, although my name does not appear on the credits, which is disappointing to me, personally. I am an Andorian in the flick and the footage was shot at a Shatner convention in Las Vegas a couple of years ago.
Anyway, I must admit that, at first, I found Trekkies almost embarrassing. Why? I guess because it was a little too close to home. I thought the movie focused too much on the Whitewater gal, who, I feel, did absolutely nothing to enhance worldwide acceptance of Star Trek and Trekkies, in particular. It bothered me a lot.
Then again, while I don't wear my phaser and tricorder to work every day and insist people call me by my Klingon rank, I do wear something Trek every single day (usually my communicator badge and/or Trek earrings) and did once wear my Spock ears to work (but it was a Saturday). And, I also have Star Trek hand painted tiles in my bathroom. So, like I said, I guess it just hit a bit closer to home than I would have liked.
