Saw Trekkies this past Sunday with three-other first-fandom folks. Lots of laughs, I'll admit, but frankly, the documentary was rather shallow and poorly researched. We were treated to a few clips of what appeared to be west coast Next Generation fans, but no insight into the people who have organized the conventions over the years or investigation into the people and practices of the individuals who originated the entire fan phenomenon. Interviews with the folks who "rolled their own" Trek before the days of Pocket Books, bi-yearly flicks, and spin-offs would have been a lot more interesting than the spoon-fed fan of today whose raison d'etre is collecting a bunch of mass-produced plastic toys.
